Special Session: IRS/ITS

— Special Session

The rapid evolution of wireless communication technologies toward 5G and the emerging 6G paradigm demands innovative solutions to meet the ever-increasing requirements for higher data rates, ultra-low latency, massive connectivity, and energy efficiency. Among the most promising technologies to address these challenges are Reconfigurable Antennas and Intelligent Reflecting/Transmitting Surfaces (IRS/ITS). These technologies enable dynamic control over the wireless propagation environment, offering unprecedented flexibility in shaping signal paths, enhancing coverage, and improving spectral efficiency.

This special session aims to bring together researchers, engineers, and practitioners to explore the latest advancements, challenges, and applications of reconfigurable antennas and intelligent surfaces in next-generation wireless networks. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and optimization of reconfigurable antennas for 5G/6G
  • Intelligent reflecting/transmitting surfaces: theory, modeling, and implementation
  • Communication and sensing using IRS/ITS
  • Channel estimation and beamforming techniques with intelligent surfaces
  • Integration of IRS/ITS with MIMO, mmWave, and THz systems
  • AI/ML-driven control and adaptation of reconfigurable surfaces
  • Security and privacy implications of intelligent surfaces
